As career development co-ordinator of the UK Polar Network (UKPN) I'm helping organise a workshop at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) next year, along with other UKPN members. It is hoped this will be the first in a series of themed workshops aimed at early career polar researchers and will combine the themes of atmosphere and modelling.
I'd like to have practical sessions as well as lectures and some of the ideas discussed at a meeting this week include flying kites which hold atmospheric measuring equipment, a demonstration of meteorological instrumentation, a cold room / chamber experiment and problem solving workshops where the problems are posed by the workshop participants to a panel of experts. These could be on a range of topics, such as instrumentation queries, modelling problems, a writing workshop...we've got lots of different ideas and plan to set up a website where there will be a form asking participants what sessions they'd like to see.
The conference is planned for April 29th - May 1st 2009, more details and a website link will be posted soon!
